Mustard, Yellow and Gold, See How This Color Works In Every Room Of The Home

Mustard, Yellow and Gold, See How This Color Works In Every Room Of The Home

There’s clearly a pattern you all have probably start to catch onto lately. It’s my love for mustard. It started a few years ago when my interior decorator brought over these mustard yellow pillows to round out my navy and white bedroom. I didn’t even consider the color. Ever since that day, it’s one I gravitate towards more and more.

But lately, between buying this top, shooting this look and coming up with some fresh branding for My Style Vita, mustard, yellow/gold, whatever you want to call it, I am OBSESSED. I definitely lean more towards the mustardy gold version of yellow versus the bright sunny yellow. To me, it’s luxurious and also reminds me of brass which is a metal I am always drawn to. This hue goes with some of my other favorite colors too like navy and hunter green and also violet. It can also go traditional, boho or modern with ease.

There’s no limit to how many rooms you can add this deep shade of yellow too. I personally love the bathroom with the gold/mustard wallpaper. It goes so well with all the white and a touch of warm brown. This shade works SO well with that classic warm mid century modern woods like teak and walnut. My favorite way to incorporate it though is with shades of blues. With hints of green or teal in the blue, it really makes for a statement.

Yellow Decor Color Combinations

If you’re thinking of adding yellow, mustard, and so on to your home, here are a few easy to achieve color combination to consider.

Yellow & Lilac

This combination was one of the more surprising ones that I stumbled onto for the home. But it totally works. Why? Because yellow and violet are total complementary colors! It also has a fresh spring feel to it with the muted colors. I love the touch of mustard in the pillow paired with muted lilac drapes and accent pieces. The brass curtain rod pulls it all together with the dark walnut wood of the furniture.

Mustard & Any Shade Of Blue

Quite possibly my favorite combination clearly. These two colors work since they’re contrasting complementary colors. Which is by the way, my favorite way to think of color combinations to wear or style in the home. Just go total opposite of the color spectrum (personally, I sometimes just look at a colorwheel to get some combination ideas!). You can shift a few shades to either side to pull in more green/blue or more purple/blue too. I personally love the more green blue shade of this wall.

Mustard, Oranges & Pinks

When looking at the color wheel you can also go within the same family. Select your color and find some colors similar to it within the same shades and tints. For yellow, that would be shades of orange, and even some pinks too. Basically, anything warm would work. You can also add a bit more of a saturated accent and include some berry which would go great with this. This bedroom pulls that all in and has varying shades and saturation of yellow and mustard. It’s possibly my favorite space in today’s post.

Monochromatic With Neutrals

The final combination that is always an easy way to decorate is to go monochromatic. This is part of the reason why I love a great neutral sofa, it allows you to easily add color! When choosing monochromatic, you can totally pick all different shades and tones of a color. For mustard, you can go with golds, walnut, yellow and even some orange if you can get it right. This bathroom is entirely neutral with white beadboard and porcelain sink.

So obsessed with the mustard trend! I must say, I love the monochromatic look with the hints of mustard the best, but the lilac and mustard is so unexpected! Love it.
