Things To Do In Washington DC

Last week I packed my bags, grabbed my sister and hopped on a plane to visit Poor Little It Girl and DC. I’ve been before doing the touristy stuff (years ago) and have been back several times in the last year and a half thanks to my old day job. But every time I visited, I never had a chance to check out museums or landmarks. Well thanks to my bucket list, quitting my job and having your BFF live in DC, I finally got my butt back up there for a vacation.

We stayed at the beautiful Melrose Georgetown Hotel who hosted us for the quick trip.  The hotel was perfectly located next to Georgetown (hello, can I please move in?!) and about a mile from all the great landmarks at National Mall (which I learned was not really a mall….). The weather was perfection. Couldn’t ask for more perfect weather in fact. If it was like that all year long you bet I’d move my butt up there in a heart beat. Cool breeze, sunshine and no humidity. I’ll take that, right?

After we headed to all the major landmarks, museums and such, we headed to Georgetown to explore. My sister discovered Dumbarton Oak Gardens and I am so glad she did. It was a beautiful place full of lush greens, flowers, fountains and more. You never would’ve guessed you were in the middle of a city.

It was so nice to get away for a few days for a little sister time, catch up with Cathy and Lacey over oysters at Hank’s Oyster Bar (so delicious) and see the city.  Sharing just a few of the many photos I took in the 48 hours there.

Not sure what I’m sitting in front of it, but it looked important, so we snapped a photo.

I definitely need to follow your lead and get out of Louisville for a bit, needing a break! Looks like DC was a blast though, much deserved for you 😉

Looks like you had a fantastic trip and stopped at some of my favorite places! I went to school in D.C. and try to visit as often as I can. I love Dolcezza — they have the best gelato and the dulce de leche latte is beyond words. Georgetown is my favorite place to spend a day shopping and Dumbarton Oaks is a beautiful spot for photos.

    PS – I love Cathy’s blog, too!
