Anyone that knows me, knows that I am HOT blooded. Big time! The second it gets remotely warm I am usually in my shorts and dresses as soon as possible. Rarely will you find me in a jean once we hit high 70s. There are few exceptions. Dinner out at a restaurant with all the cold AC blasting, or working inside at a coffee shop with more cold AC blasting. Then there’s people who just aren’t hot blooded and can wear jeans in 90 degree heat and I just will never understand that.
Today’s jeans I’ll be honest, aren’t ideal for summer. They’re a bit on the heavier weight side, but they are a bit loose and light in color. So if I’m heading to a cold restaurant, I’m throwing these on this summer for sure! When looking for summer jeans to wear it’s all about three things. The weight of the denim, the wash, and the fit.
How To Shop For Summer Denim
When shopping for summer denim there are a few things to keep in mind so you don’t overheat. But also so you don’t look like you’re dressing for the wrong season. Now is not the time for heavy black denim, or super skinny dark wash jeans when it’s 90 degrees out, right? Whenever I shop for denim, I look for 3 things, wash, fit and weight. PS you can check out my favorite denim I’ve ever worn here.
When it comes to the wash, aim for lighter washes. From light blue, to white and even washed out black denim too. Wearing dark blue denim is fine when paired with a white tee or floral top, but for summer, I always prefer a lighter wash to make the whole outfit feel more summery. For summer, it can also be a great time to try out the distressed denim trend too.
The Weight Of The Denim
Think about the weight of the fabric when trying on jeans for summer. Lighter, thinner fabric is best. This usually means a little bit of spandex in them to give them a thinner fabric. 100% cotton is at least breathable, but the denim tends to be a lot heavier.
And lastly, the fit. A relaxed fit is more comfortable in the heat and can also pair well with summer tops like fitted tanks or crop tops. They’re a perfect balance. You can also go for a great mom jean or boyfriend jean. I really love a good straight leg in a light wash like today’s look for summer. And I’m a huge fan of a wide leg crop, here are 3 ways to style this fit. But summer is also a fun time to try other fits like crops and wide legs. And of course, shorts! Here’s a list of my favorite summer shorts.
