Postcards From NYFW September

I hope you aren’t sick of me talking about NFYW just yet. It was only my second time going and my first time attending in September so it was all new experiences for me. It was a lot hotter than I anticipated which made me realize I packed like a total asshole. Which is strangely becoming a recurring issue with me and trips. Besides me hating everything I wore pretty much (besides the few looks that made it to the blog) I did enjoy myself and got to see some great shows, catch up with old friends and check out some new restaurants too.

I wanted to share a little recap of my NYC highlights for this years Fashion Week.  Initially I didn’t want to go back in February, I have a bit of a love hate relationship with this week because it is so exhausting and hectic, but I think I’ll be back again. And determined to pack much better. Let’s also hope it’s not record freezing temperatures like it was last February.

Ulla Johnson Presentation

Probably my favorite presentation of the week, Ulla Johnson was a feminine, boho dream.  It was full of soft pastels with a few beautiful pops of red that were all calling my name. I particularly loved this shag jacket. I wish I could wear it right this second. There was also a blush leather moto jacket that was so beautiful I still think about. I wish their price point was just a tad lower, but their sale items are a slight splurge and I’m totally okay with that. Going to be on the hunt for a great piece to buy I think.

This is round two for this trio right here. Cathy of Poor Little It Girl and Kristin of Living In Color Print and I all roomed together last season and didn’t end up killing each other.  So we decided to do it all over again this September. I think it’s crazy how my friendships have changed so much over the years with the blog. People who are in my life now never would have been if it weren’t for this blog and I’m so thankful for that. It’s great to have a support group that you can not only lean on, but travel with too!

I can’t ever say no to a good brunch so when Kristin invited us to attend brunch al fresco at the Yotel to help celebrate the launch of her Grabr Fashion Week Collection (you can shop it here) we jumped on board. It was fun to hang out with a few blog friends, new and old ones, while enjoying mimosas and good conversation.

If you aren’t familiar with Grabr, it’s a peer to peer international shopping service, similar to an Uber or Lyft, where you can bid on items you want someone to bring back for you from around the world. Such a smart idea if you’ve fallen in love with a beauty product overseas that you can’t seem to find in the states.  Kristin curated a Fashion Week collection that you can now shop here.

This season we returned back to Langham Place Hotel for our stay which is always such a joy. The hotel is absolutely stunning, has incredible amenities (I actually hit up the gym this trip) and their color scheme is the best. Pink and gold, how could you hate that? We were greeted with pretty little goodies and macarons when we arrived. This BKR bottle is going to be an everyday favorite. I also took about 17 pens from the hotel (they encourage it, don’t judge!) because they are simply the best. My entire desk drawer is now full of them.  The hotel is located right on 36th and 5th Ave making it super accessible to Moynihan Station where most of the shows are. Plus it has a great view of the Empire State Building. Can’t complain there!

There’s just nothing better than a New York City stoop. We all stopped dead in our tracks when we saw this turquoise and sort of pinkish brownstone while on our way to the ShopStyle event. It was like a little bit of Charleston charm in the heart of New York City.  Oh to dream to live in one of these one day… One day.

A few things I can’t live without at NYFW are my cell phone, back up charger, camera and a few good snacks to hold me over in an emergency. It’s easy to cave and grab a slice of $1 pizza, but having KIND bars on hand at all times made me make smarter healthier decisions this go around. Never fails me!  If you’re heading to NYFW next season, be sure to pack all the extra chargers you can find and chords. This city drains your phone like WOAH!

We popped into the ShopStyle Social House on Saturday before heading to watch the FSU game (I was with two FSU alumni, so I had no choice). It was fun to meet new blog friends and say hello to my ShopStyle rep.  Plus, we definitely needed a little recharge with coffee and a few fun new goodies from the brands in attendance.

I was on a black and white kick for most of the week and this was my last look of NYFW. It finally cooled off a bit (as in it wasn’t 95 degrees with 75% humidity) so I brought out my one decently planned outfit, Madewell top and joggers plus my go to Adidas of course. This season was all about comfort and I don’t regret it one bit!  I really hope sneakers don’t go out of style, it’s seriously the best thing to happen to fashion in forever!

Before I headed home on Sunday, I was able to stop in at the backstage madness with Jenny Packham. The tables were packed with Bobbi Brown goodies and Oribe hair items (this is one of my favorites). All of the models were also getting mani’s and pedis with Essie polishes. It’s really fun to see the backstage moments of a fashion show. It’s chaos, but it’s insanely organized all at the same time. I wish I could’ve stayed longer but had to catch my flight. Would’ve loved to have watched them do a full face of makeup and learn a little bit from the experts.

My last show of the week was TOME. The show was full of ruffles, gingham and lots of reds and black. I loved that their models were a range of ages and sizes too. Before heading into this show I was waiting outside with Kristin of Living In Color Print and we got to see street style at it’s finest. This is a show that a lot of big guns attend, so it was neat to see them all roll in and get photographed. The fashions were great (some not so great) but it was super cool to just sit back and watch it all for a solid 30 minutes. Definitely an experience to say the least. And noted, dress way better next time!

Day one of NYFW I threw on a simple black dress and a duster.  I truly thought I’d be able to stay cool in this since it was sleeveless. Let’s just say, I took three showers this day and I think my dress was soaked by the end of the day. Either way, I actually really liked this look, it was comfortable and stylish at the same time. Cathy snapped these pics right before we walked into Ulla Johnson’s presentation which was stunning!
