It’s starting to feel like summer out which means it’s spritz season! One of my all time favorite cocktails is an Aperol spritz. The bubbles are so refreshing and it takes me instantly to vacation and warm weather with friends. A spritz is technically a cocktail with wine topped with something sparkling like carbonated water. But rules are meant to be broken and today I’m sharing a really easy grapefruit mezcal spritzer. It’s refreshing, tart and has a little kick to it!
Simple Grapefruit Mezcal Spritz Cocktail Recipe
This cocktail is super simple to make as it really just requires your favorite tequila (if you don’t like mezcal, just use your favorite white tequila). Plus a good splash of grapefruit Spindrift. I’m OBSESSED with Spindrift. I think it’s the superior sparkling water on the market. But if you have a La Croix at home, that works too. You can also sub the Spindrift for just sparkling water and a good squeeze of any citrus if you don’t have it. As for the simple syrup in the recipe, you can always just use honey or agave. But you can also go super fancy and infuse your simple syrup with jalapeno to make it spicy. Delicious! But let’s be honest, muddling 2 slices of jalapeno will also do the trick. All about simplicity here!
- 2 oz of Mezcal
- 2 Dashes of grapefruit bitters
- Grapefruit Spindrift
- Tajin and Salt
- Simple Syrup (or honey or agave) – You can be really fancy here and infuse your simple syrup with jalapeno to make it spicy!
- Juice of 1 lime
- Grapefruit and lime slices for garnish
If you’re making this spicy, add your jalapeno to a shaker with your simple syrup and muddle it. If not, skip this step.
Add your mezcal, bitters and juice of 1 lime to a shaker. Add ice and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
Take the cut lime and rub it on the rim of your coupe glass and dip the edges into a mix of Tajin and salt for a delicious and spicy rim! Dunk a slice of grapefruit and lime into the mix for a garnish too.
Strain into a coupe glass and top with grapefruit Spindrift. Add your grapefruit and lime slices and enjoy!
