There are some things I think everyone should have in their liquor cabinet for easy cocktails. Sure you should have an array of liquors from vodka, tequila, gin, rum and bourbon, but also a few additional things. Bitters are definitely one of them. I also like to keep a variety of basic sodas on hand. I love these small cans as they’re perfect for about 2 cocktails so you don’t waste an entire can. I like to keep a variety in my cabinet to spruce up even the simplest of cocktails. I headed to Target (my favorite place, duh) to stock up on these little cans to have in my liquor cabinet anytime friends are over to make simple cocktails with.
Take today’s drink. It could really just be a tequila 7UP® and you’re good to go. Sure who doesn’t love that combo. It’s got a clean, fresh taste with a hint of lime and sweetness. But adding a little squeeze of grapefruit and a few dashes of bitters, you’ve got a much fancier tasting cocktail with little effort. My favorite kind of cocktail.
Today’s cocktail only includes 4 ingredients but actually tastes a lot more complex. With the addition of bitters, you get a whole new level of flavor with this drink. To make this grapefruit lime fizz, I took my favorite white tequila and added 1 1/2 ounces to a shaker. Along with a few dashes of bitters and a good ounce or so of fresh grapefruit juice. I shook it all up and poured it into these cute pink glasses to match the garnish. I topped each one with a good splash of 7UP. Topping a cocktail with a little bubbly is a common method and adds just enough carbonation to the drink. The combination of bubbles, citrus and bitters makes for one delicious cocktail. I garnished with a grapefruit quarter so you know exactly what’s in it.
If you’re heading to Target anytime soon, and if you aren’t, that’s just weird. I go there like every 3 days. Be sure to pick up a few mini cans like these to stock your bar with for impromptu parties.
