This outfit may look a little familiar as I shared a sneak peek of it in this bootie roundup last month. I was personally surprised that I loved this western style bootie as much as I did. I would’ve originally said it was my least favorite of the bunch, but it ended up being my  MOST favorite. Not only is the color kind of perfect to go with so many things, but they’re comfortable! Plus, the cute slide cutouts make them feel super cool and trendy.

When wearing a western trend though one must tread carefully. You don’t want to go all in on this trend or you’ll look like you belong on a dude ranch. Which PS, I’m kind of dying to go to a dude ranch so there’s that. But unless you plan to ride horses, or wrangle men on said dude ranch, I recommend keeping a few of these tips in mind.

How To Style The Western Trend Without Looking Like A Cowboy

Keep It Simple

Whether you choose a western boot, a tooled leather bag or leather fringe jacket, find pieces that are still fairly simple. A leather fringe jacket can be simple in the sense that it doesn’t also have turquoise on it and an aztec print.

Don’t Add Too Much

You don’t need a western style bootie AND a fringe jacket AND a giant belt buckle. Let just one to two things feel a little western inspired, or go big and bold with just ONE single piece. Since these booties are pretty understated, you can definitely add one more thing to the look that’s more western inspired like maybe this western chambray shirt or a printed poncho.

Pair With Feminine Pieces

I’ll be wearing these boots ASAP with a pretty feminine dress. It’s a great way to balance out the more masculine feel that comes with the western look (in my opinion at least!).  Adding something super girly and flowy to the more western feel is a great juxtaposition to the trend. I’m thinking this dress will be perfect for just that paired with a denim jacket or long cardigan.

I was immediately hesitant to try the Western trend when I saw it popping up – I hate the idea of looking “too western”! Love these tips – less is more on this I feel like. Thanks for sharing!
