Hope you all had a fun 4th of July yesterday! My friends and I headed to the Atlanta United soccer game. We never had a team until this year and all of a sudden Atlanta is now a big time soccer city. Who knew! Thought this was a great time to share this favorite cocktail of mine since it’s what I took as my roadie to get to the Georgia Tech stadium for the tailgate.
I usually drink the same thing when I go out with friends. Tequila (Herradura if they have it) and soda water with lots of limes. If I’m partying, it’s Cazadores reposado shots with orange slices. If I’m on a patio relaxing, it’s quite possibly a Mexican Mule. You see the common factor here? Yup, tequila. It’s my best friend.
You may not have heard of a Mexican Mule, but I’m sure you’ve heard of a Moscow Mule, right? Sure, they’re having a serious moment right now. But here’s the thing, I’m not a big vodka fan. And to be honest, I’ve had many a vodka lovers tell me a Mexican Mule tastes better than the classic. A Mexcian Mule is simply a Moscow Mule but with tequila (hence the Mexican…, kind of a racist cocktail but whatever). If you’re not into either of those liquors, you can do a Kentucky Mule (made with bourbon) or just drink my watermelon frosé slushies because those are good too.
These are so simple to make at home that there are no excuses not to try it. All it is is tequila, ginger beer and a good squeeze of lime. For those people who say “such and such restaurant makes a great Mule” shut it. That’s like saying a bar makes a great vodka soda. These are stupid easy to make and I highly recommend keeping Goslings in your fridge to whip these up when hump day feels longer than it should.
