The Best Primers And Setting Sprays For Oily Skin

best primers for oily skin, tips for keeping your makeup on all day long - My Style Vita @mystylevita

If you’ve been following me on Instagram for a while, you’ll know that a few months back I had a major makeup epiphany. I finally learned why my makeup literally falls off my face within 2 hours and I end up at night with zero makeup on my face. Usually was my excuse to never have to wash my face at night, but no longer the case. Sad, I know.

I finally learned a few things. First, I have oily skin. I knew I was kinda oily, but didn’t realize how oily. Second, I wasn’t using a good primer or setting powder.  I don’t think I was using anything to be honest. I would maybe use a primer once in a while, but not daily. After begging my followers and fellow blog friends for any and all tips, I finally got to testing out new products and have found some great items that I now swear by. And guess what? I now HAVE to wash my face at night because I have a full, yes full, face of make up on after a long day. Even after hot yoga (I tested it out to be super sure it stayed on and it did!).

Between changing up my primer, adding in a setting powder and spray and also updating my foundation, I’m confident that my face will stay put. Today I’m sharing all my primer and setting products that I’m loving. And for the foundation I switched to, I started using L’Oreal Infalliable Matte thanks to Shelby of Glitter and Gingham. It’s been an absolute game changer. I still use my lighter foundations on a more daily basis and use these products to keep it put. But when going for a full dramatic face, I always reach for the L’Oreal.

1. BECCA Ever Matte Poreless Primer

Recommended by fellow blog friend, Jenny Sue Makeup, this has been the number one thing I swear by now. A little goes a long way. It keeps your makeup put for HOURS. It’s a little pricey, but since you use so little, it’s totally worth the splurge as it’ll last forever.

2. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Finish Powder

I emailed my friends over at It Cosmetics and begged them to help me find something to keep my makeup put. They recommended Bye Bye Pores which comes in a pressed or loose powder. I personally like the loose, but both do a great job. This sets everything and I put this on once I’m done with my face and then finish with Urban Decay’s Setting Spray.

3. Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray

After doing some research once I realized what my actual problem was (who knew oily skin means your makeup slides right off…..) I started to find products that aligned with my issues. This was highly recommended by many beauty sites and I really like it. It also helps to give a bit of a dewy look on top of the matte foundation I use.

4. Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer

I don’t use this super often, but when I need my lipstick to stay put for a night out, I usually swipe this on before applying my lipstick. It’s also great for these hot humid days as lipstick can easily move around your face.

5. L’Oréal Voluminous Eyelash Primer

When I say makeup was melting off my face, I meant every part of it. Mascara, lipstick, everything. I got hooked on this L’Oréal primer as it also adds some volume and my mascara stays put.

I have to say the primer is definitely the key here. I tested each one on its own and that was the product that really kept everything on the longest. Total game changer

I have oily skin too so THANK YOU for this! What do you use under the primer (i.e. Lotion? serums?)
