One of my all time favorite guilty pleasures are donuts. I like just about any flavor (well okay, powdered sugar ones can go) but my go to is usually strawberry frosted with sprinkles or glazed chocolate cake ones. I’ve always wanted to try my hand at making donuts at home with one of these fun mini donut makers and when Christmas Tree Shops andThat! reached out to me about trying a few things from their store, I instantly went to the food section.
I think one of the most fun things about shopping at discount retailers like Christmas Tree Shops andThat! is that the food stuff is always in style. Sometimes clothing or decor may be a little more tough to get exactly what you want, but when it comes to the kitchen, it never fails me. I mean if donuts are out of style, then so be it, I still plan to consider them one of the best things on the planet. Besides the mini donut maker (which by the way is so cute, compact and whips up donuts in 7 minutes flat) I also grabbed these pretty crystal glasses (similar here), which you can find in their Kennesaw store, that are a nice update to my boring everyday ones for my iced coffee.
For a simple weekend morning, I went with classic strawberry glazed donuts with my favorite iced coffee recipe. It made the weekend a little more sweet if you ask me. The recipe is super simple with ingredients I’m sure you already have on hand. And in just a few minutes you have perfect little donuts. Top with your favorite glaze, I went with a simple powdered sugar, water and dash of vanilla extract and sprinkles and you’ve got a sweet treat in no time.
If you prefer online shopping, Christmas Tree shops andThat! has a great selection of items online, I’m currently eyeing this pineapple drink dispenser for you know, my next big party. But if you prefer to shop in person, which I think for a discount store is a little more fun to find new items as they tend to be restocked with fun finds often, there’s a location in Kennesaw that is full of great stuff that I’m sure you’ll love.
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 tbsp canola oil
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 tbsp of water (add slowly until you get the consistency you like)
- splash of vanilla extract
- sprinkles to garnish
- Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix until combined. Add just enough batter to each donut mold so that it's level and not overflowing. Close and cook for 7 minutes.
