Over the weekend I headed to one of my favorite spots for the best sandwich in town and a Jack and Coke slushy. Victory was a spot my friends and I used to go to in Inman Park, but after it got torn down, we were forced to make the trip to Decatur to get our beloved Jack and Coke slushes. I headed here on the most perfect Saturday afternoon. 70 degrees, not a cloud in the sky and officially rocking Summer clothes. White shorts? Don’t mind if I do.
I ordered the pickles to start, because I love anything pickled. These are probably one of my top 3 favorite pickle appetizers in the city. General Muir is probably my first choice (but it’s close folks). For sandwiches, I went with the Castro, a cuban classic with smoked pulled pork, ham, pickles, fontina cheese and of course yellow mustard. Served up with salt and pepper potato chips, this was the perfect sandwich. We finished lunch off with a chocolate sea salt cookie. I don’t think I’ve ever had one before (shocking I know) and my life may have just been changed forever. I’m not a big chocolate chip cookie person, I prefer a good donut or double chocolate chunk cookie. But this, this my friends was ridiculous. The sea salt flakes were the perfect accompaniment to the rich chocolate, simply delicious and maybe one of the best cookies I’ve ever had.
* Update. Since this post was published, the new Inman Park location is now open just one block away from the old one. Now we have not one but two Victory Sandwich Bars so go to for some of the best sandwiches in Atlanta.
